Ba't si Samoa Joe yung kinuha niyo para kay Sweet Tooth?
Ba't di na lang si Scott Steiner?
Magaling siya sa math!

Retrocalifragilisticexpialidocious

RGCP or the Retro Gamers & Collectors Philippines group recently held their 6th Anniversary event over at Victory Central Mall at Monumento.
Hosted by Retrogamerph Store.
And as recommended by Senor Benj. Thanks, maaang!

Not entirely sure if they were the same organizers at Retro Gaming Expo (which took place early this year over at Fishermall).
But either way, this was the closest event to ever took place within our general area(Q.C. North Area).
The closest one was a PICCA event at SM North Edsa which was held some good 9 years ago.
Thanks, Macoy!
But I wasn't able to go to THAT event so that doesn't count, I guess?

True to name/theme of this convention.
This was indeed an event for retro gamers and collectors alike.
Game cartridges and controllers do rule the event.
Free plays on consoles like the Nes, Snes, N64, Dreamcast, and Playstation.
Games spotted on these TVs:
SuperMario Bros, Power Stone, Tekken 3, Super Smash Bros.
and our personal favorite Street Fighter II Turbo.
There was also an on-going raffle, Super Smash Tournament and (what we could only assume is) a Dance Dance Revolution exhibition upon our arrival.
The tiangge area was also a highlight for the event.
Considering the limited floor space of the Victory Mall, the organizers were able to keep the exhibitors as diverse as possible.
Merchandises weren't simply limited to video game-related toys and figurines.
Naka-quota na siya. Ang saya ni kuya o!

There were also anime figurines,
comic book related figurines,
and surprisingly enough, comic books.
Don't have the budget to buy anything?
Don't fret
because there will always be something for everyone.
Kung kaya't, huwag ka ng choosy!
OY!

All in all this was a fun lil' event.
The venue and the time (10am-7pm) was an excellent choice as well.
And we sincerely hope that we could attend the next event as well.
Hence, congratulations and happy 6th anniversary, RGCP!
More power to you guys and stay awesome....

Sorrow Aoi

So it's basically, Castlevania meets Mortal Kombat meets Killer Instinct.

It's not that bad (but the second trailer sure was terrible) but then again it's not that good either.

It's a so-so fighting game. Those trailers doesn't really reveal much and those  names and character descriptions could sure use a rewrite.
And what the hell's a Mongrel Knight?
Isn't a mongrel a derogatory term for a mixed breed type of dog?
So how is that even applicable to a person? To a lead character even?????

But the soundtrack does sound amazing. A little bit too metal (not like that's a bad thing!!) for a period fighting game. But then again. Would you rather listen to this instead?

Best Of E3 2017

Howdy-ho, internet peeps!
Hot off the press and straight out from E3 2017!
Here are SSM!'s personal picks from that said gaming convention.
And to avoid biases, we're limiting our picks to 2 titles per console.
And with that in mind. Let's begin, shall we?
6.

It's your friendly neighborhood Marvel superhero and looking sharper than ever!
And yes, you've heard that right! Fresh from of Civil War, Spider-Man is now back to being Marvel's property. No more Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and all these sub-par Spider-men.
Make way for Tom
But wait, this Spider-Man game is not a movie tie-in. Despite it looking very promising and all.

Back to it's comic book roots for the said game would feature
both Miles Morales and Peter Parker. Because quite frankly
the very last Spider-Man game we ever played were these.

And that last one wasn't even a legit Spider-Man game. But both games were published by
Activision. The same publisher who brought us this gem:

5.

Yes, we have two strong entries from Sony!
This here be a remake of a PS2 classic. Amped up and remastered for the current generation.
Now I haven't really played the original game extensively but I'm pretty sure WACKY RODENT is pretty fired up about this title hence the 5th spot in our countdown. And he even played the original Japanese version which was curiously enough entitled: WANDER
and the colossus.
And I'm pretty sure it would still be as equally difficult to scale any of those 16 colossi. But at least the jerky movements would no longer be an issue this time around.
And hopefully they've included the 17th Colossus.
Say what now, that was merely a myth?
NO WAY!!!
And speaking of mining on our PS2 nostalgia. They've also released this game.

Ubisoft (quite like Nintendo) is also on a roll on this year's E3.
Back with cursing monkeys, pigs and what have yous....

Microsoft had also just released their overly expensive console called the XBOX ONE X.

Priced at $500.
That's pretty pricey for a gaming console, hopefully the games are well-worth it.

4.

This was surprisingly good despite us having no knowledge about it.
3.

This second game reminds us heavily of the Blade Runner movie. And speaking of which:

Spoiler Alert: Dave "Drax The Destroyer" Batista's in it!

Also it seems that Microsoft' had been taking cues from the Steam and several other indie publisher since most of their titles has that artsy and experimental vibe to it. Not exactly a bad thing but a potentially risky one, all the more on an overly expensive console. But what the hey, it's from Microsoft. And Bill Gates won't really be losing any sleep over our petty discussions and indecision.

2
.
Nintendo finally got their act together to release not just 1 but 2 Metroid games.
Well the other one is just some boring ass title screen teaser. Hence this is the trailer we've decided to showcase instead. It's on a 2.5D plane and the presentation reminds me heavily of yet another action side-scrolling game for the SNES entitled Majuu Ou.
The 2.5D is really making a huge comeback, which can also be viewed as a good thing since we would like to believe that everyone is getting sick and tired of the same 3D perspective we've been treated to ever since 2-3 consoles ago. And we get it, 3D is indeed the preferred look in more advanced consoles but it does comes a time that it does get a bit stale and the presentation losses its charm and eventually it's overall identity.

1.

It's Mario acting all Patrick Swayze like.
What not to love?
And with Pauline singing the theme song of the game, that seems to be a big deal as well.
Big of a deal that the internet lost their collective minds and just made this game the #1 trending topic worldwide. And it should be, for it really is such a promising game.

Posses a random New Donker, posses a T-REX. Everything seems possible and there is also this other crossover game:

It really is a big comeback year for Nintendo.
They're finally broken off that stereotypical family friendly crowd and charming the older gamers with their familiar titles but with an edgier twist. We're seriously looking forward to most of the titles that we've featured in today. Now, if only we could afford a Nintendo Switch..

Skullgirls: 2nd Encore

This game was released 2 years ago and we're slowly learning all about it in 2017!

It's always better late than never, I guess?

Games Bond

It's just 4 characters, how is this INFINITE????
This is still not the game we were hoping for but Maximillan Dood begs to differ.

And oh, nevermind!
An extended gameplay trailer had just been released.
Let's take a looksie, shall we:

Oh, you get to use dem infinity stones like a fuck'n stoner (sorry po, Mayor!)
Kidding aside, it's actually referred to as INFINITY GEMS but hellz yeah, just like in the ye olde Marvel Super Heroes game for the Arcade/Playstation.

It's always fun to run after a particular gem that you'd probably won't be able to use anyways (Not unless you're playing as Thanos). I'm pretty sure this look is all the rave nowadays but for the more retro gamers, we are still hoping for that "pandering to the old fans" type of 2D sprite title. But until then we could always hold on to:

Speaking of "that horrid 3D look", look at what Capcom just did to Akuma/Gouki:

Totally distasteful!
I wonder if Capcom really knew what looks best for their characters. Several much more DECENT concept arts were rejected in favor of THIS????
SERIOUSLY???
THAT'S BOLLOCKS!
His move sets does look pretty dope (Double Air Hadoukens are always awesome!) but that lion's mane.....MAAAN O MAN, it's fuck'n distracting!
One of the many pros of using Akuma is that you have the intimidation factor going on. But guess what, Capcom is back to square one!  Just when you we're building a bit of steam with your Mika and Karin reveal trailers. You blew your potential customers away with your French Fries Haired Alex, Fat Birdie and now Lion King Akuma....
Looking at this image alone,
makes me wish I was playing Tekken 7 instead!

Enough of the negativity and now for something good, a 2D fighter for 2016?
What, when, where and how????

It's actually a PS4 port of an old game but a pretty darn good one to say the least. SNK's absolute game changer of a title and the definitive rival to Capcom's Street Fighter III. See, this is how you do it, Capcom!

2D fighting games would still be a thing and as long as you'd be willing to release newer games then some fool would still be silly enough to try and beat it.Take cues from the numerous modders, Mugen games and Evo Tournaments. Bring your company back to your former glory, do something you were once good at. Make others imitate your brand as opposed to going the 3D route altogether.

We end this entry with the 2nd extended trailer of Guardians Of The Galaxy 2.
Rocket Raccoon is still pretty badass and so is Baby Groot.
And Batista as Drax.

Oh Batista, you are definitely born to play the said role.
I sure hope Marvel would allow you to be just Drax for the rest of your life.
No more Evolution and no more teaming up with Eddie Guerrero( Ok, I take that back, that was a pretty memorable team-up), just you as Drax at the next year's Royal Rumble.
So WWE, go ahead and book it!
