Here are a few of our hauls from our not so recent Japan surplus store pick-ups.
Obviously, the highlight of this trip were these two figures:
Which were both purchased at bargain prices.
I wish there was a full sized figure of this. But half of which is still good, thus this will have to do for now. I've always thought that the Pepsi logo was a medal of some sort. But apparently the huge rapper like chain wasn't even connected to anything. And speaking of odd pieces of jewelry.
Pepsi Man is actually wearing a "P" ring.
The "P" probably stood for "PUCK OFF, PUCKFACE!"
We're kidding of course!
But there you go! That's definitely one bonus thing you probably didn't knew about Pepsi Man.
Next up would be this Dogeza Strap Ryu by Zarigani Works.
It's actually missing the said strap and some product manual but quite frankly, WHO CARES???
And surprise-surprise, the said pin goes straight up his ass.
Y-OUCH!
This very apologetic version of Ryu is actually pretty dope as fuck!
And it's totally fun to pose him around in all sorts of weird angles and situations.
These two items alone made the said trip worthwhile. Anything else that we got afterwards were of lesser importance or are probably not as cool as these two.
But anyways, first up would be this nifty little Dragon Quest manual.
Right off the bat, quite noticeable would be the very recognizable Akira Toriyama artwork for the cover.
And basically, we've never really seen a NES manual before. Because most of the Famicom carts we used to owned were simply just the cart itself. No boxes hence no actual manuals.
It's actually pretty small. It's probably as big as a Gameboy manual.
Plus the interior artworks were obviously non-Toriyama so that's definitely a bummer right there!
Moving on with our next pick and that would be this Gundam mini book right here:
Back cover:
It's not exactly THE most comprehensive collection. So chances are you won't be able to find all of the other versions of Gundams (Wing, Seed, etc.) within the said book. Just the older ones, I guess?
And speaking of older ones, it doesn't get any more OG than this!
The RX-78-2 is such an iconic design.
You probably can spot the said mecha from the sea of other primarily colored robots.
Even while carrying a whip, it still is pretty recognizable.
We knew of the Zakus and the Sazabis,
but were totally lost amidst all the other models we're probably seeing for the first time.
Like these very shell like mechas.
And this Punk Knight hybrid.
There were even a few of these transparent variants.
We're guessing these were limited edition collector's item of some sort.
But this version probably takes the cake and eats it too with as to how unnecessary and impractical this one looks.
It's like bringing your entire house to a family picnic.
And last but not the least would be these two folders.
The photo album was basically a gift to my mother
While the trading card binder is simply a gift for ourselves.
The photo album contained generic company introduction thingy,
a really old calendar dating back to 2004.
and a really random stock photo to start you off on your photo collecting journey.
The trading card binder on the other hand is something we could really use immediately.
Boasting 4 sleeves per page.
This would be the perfect binder for all your sketch card needs.
And obviously, we wasted little time trying to fill it up.
Total money spent ; P300.00.
Final Verdict: Were able to spent our money wisely. Didn't go over our budget and were able to purchase some really cool and useful items.
