The Last Of The Mohicans
Japanese surplus stores are but a dying breed here in our country.
Now, it is quite common to see one on the side of the road but most of which were focused
more on furnitures, sporting equipments, etc.
All of which you probably wouldn't want or need anyway.
We are somewhat reluctant to blog about this, considering that most of the places we've
blogged about in the past had either closed down or had been relocated elsewhere.
Here's a list of all those places with ill-fated destinies:
1. Halina Kabayan Ko:

2. Japan Selection (Qurino Highway)
http://silentsanctummanga.blogspot.com/2013/01/law-of-natural-selections.html
3. Japan Selections ( Roosevelt Avenue)
http://silentsanctummanga.blogspot.com/2016/03/moving-out-sale.html
4. Japan Selections ( West Avenue)

5. Japan Selections ( Starmall)
No pics nor blog post available.
And now we're here!
But alas, we had to do what we had to do!
To ensure that these type of businesses stays afloat and that this surplus store will be saved from the unforgiving purge.
Enter Japan's Best.
Located at the 3rd floor of Araneta Square at Caloocan, Monumento.
Near the Bonifacio Monument.
We've covered various SELECTIONS before but this right here is the BEST of the BEST!
Obscure NES/SNES titles aside.
The "BEST" part isn't just an exaggeration or a way of tooting their own horns but is nothing short of
an apt description of what they sell and what they do.
Upon entering, you are immediately greeted with not just one,
not just two,
but SEVERAL shelves filled to the brim with Tankobons.
There were even some boxes that we couldn't access at the back.
But the ones you can dig through were nothing but boastful or rude.
BASTARD ka rin ng 'inamo!
As always, you'd get a handful of titles we're all familiar with.
And a wide selection of newer titles for you to discover and hopefully love.
Like this original Shone Jump title from 1987, entitled "Ginga Legend Weed".
Sorry po, Mayor! May Weed po talaga yan sa title.
Hindi po yan...*ehem*, alam niyo na!
And also, does anyone need a copy of Toriko #1?
'Cuz there's like 6 or 7 of them within that store alone.
All of the titles and text are in Japanese (As if that's going to stop you from buying anyways!).
And most of the titles are incomplete except maybe for these two series that
were conveniently bundled up in one set.
There were also a few of the collected versions of older titles like Hokuto No Ken.
These books are hardbound and are 2-3 volumes compressed into one giant book.
We'd lovingly/jokingly refer to them as the "Pang-Thesis" collection.
Our supposed contribution to society in manga form:
You're welcome, Japan's Best!
In addition to their wide variety of manga titles, the store would also carry the usual
Ultraman and various other mecha action figures,
SNES cartridges/controllers.
and several other electronics and household items.
I'd buy that for a dollar!
And boy, this sure looks expensive!
It really is a manga haven of sorts.
This pretty much is THE place for casual manga buyers and collectors alike.
We are quickly reminded of that one Spongebob SquarePants episode wherein Spongebob and Patrick adopts a clam. There is that one scene where the entire house is filled with
clam diapers.
That's exactly what this place is. Sans the dirty diapers, of course.
You have tankobons behind cabinets
and in secret compartments.
and you even have tankobons used as footings for shelves.
It really is a fine place to visit and an even finer way to spend your afternoon amongst
family and friends. So drop by the said place and let's keep this business afloat. For after all,
we might never find another place quite like this ever again.
Prescribed budget : P500 - P1000.
