Now that we got that joke out of the way, let's continue!

is not your run-of-the-mill book convention.
And when we say a very book-centric convention, we seriously mean it!
So no, cosplay, bakery products, bathroom tiles or any other products you'd normally wouldn't care about. We all know that the
World Trade Center
(
Not the one in N.Y.) is the usual venue for all the above-mentioned gatherings but we could assure you that there'd be none of that here.
So no fancy-schmancy booths, no pregnant salesladies giving you dirty looks, just stacks, and stacks of books of every kind! Books as far as the eye can see. Most of which were in their
60-80% discount prices.
Big Bad Wolf or
BBW (
not to be confused with Big Beautiful Women) is a Malaysian based book event/warehouse sale. Partnering locally with media giant
ABS-CBN and with parts of the proceeds going to
Gawad Kalinga.
From
Feb. 16-25. So that's a total of
10 days of free admission and
24 hours worth of book shopping goodness (
But realistically speaking, the event ends around 11-12-ish because C'mon! Those marshalls and organizers really deserve a break from all the madness). And with irresponsible shoppers left and right, madness is but an understatement!
And hey, an actual
BIG BAD WOLF!
Neat-o!
And wait a minute, that's not how you spell
NAZIS,
Oh, nevermind!
BEST...
DAMN...
COVER...
EVER!!!
And speaking of irresponsible book shoppers being a dime a dozen, here were some of the more
unintentional comedic combos amidst the stacked pandemonium.
Jesus and Aliens.
Snoopy and the Dalai Lama.
Mahatma Gandhi and The Thing.
All of which were filed under the
section.
Speaking of which, each section were divided accordingly. Both for the buyer and seller's convenience, I guess?
But despite the sea and sea of books (
around 2 millions new books as advertised.),
we were only interested in one type of book.
And
SURPRISE-SURPRISE, those books were indeed
comic books.
The very first comic book we ever saw within the area.
After which, everything seems to fall into place, and we've been finding all of the available
TPBs within the said vicinity.
Most of which were
Star Wars titles paired with some
Marvel ones from time to time
with interior pages looking like THIS:
(ho-hum, boho-rrring!)
(but wait, there's more! It also came in with the reprinted origin story of....)
(
Jack Kirby artworks are always delightful to see. Most especially up close and personal)
We don't know how the interior pages look like(
there were no sampler copies available anywhere) but we were kinda tempted to get this one. If only this wasn't priced that high.
And various other titles along the sides.
Nothing too rare or fancy to write home about but still definitely worth your time and quite possibly your money.
There were a couple of titles we've been meaning to get for the longest time.
Like:
With interior pages looking like this:
or:
(Not entirely sure if this was only
P580 or
P1580 since part of its sticker had been peeled off. But either way, this book looks pretty dope!)

It could be quite overwhelming to take in after a while hence the event does stress that you either take necessary breaks or come back at a different day. You have a total of
10 days to choose from after all.
But too bad for us, we went there on the last day.
Hence that said option is probably out of the picture.
We just had to make the most out of it.
Time to pay up or shut up.
And obviously,
P1000 just wouldn't cut it. Lesson learned hence we needed to bring more money
next time around.
While waiting in line, you could still check up on books you might have missed.
Books like:
or:
Or this other book with
Star Wars characters as yarn
creations.
Even as yarn sculptures, we
STILL couldn't tell who shot first!
And
no, there weren't any books being sold at an even lower price.
Because this is not god damn
BREADTALK or
FRENCH BAKER. The prices are already in their "
as is where is" prices and for fuck's sake, it's for charity, man!
Have a heart, you freakin Scrooge McDuck, you!
Catch you on the next post, where we reveal the very few books we got from the said event.
Again, we should've just brought more money instead!
